Reopening Policies for The Upper Perkiomen Valley Library

Welcome Back! Here is what to expect when you visit the library after we reopen in August 2020.

¤ Limited number of patrons in the library at any given time: When the library reopens we will allow 15 people (including staff) on the main floor at a time. We will ask you to keep your visit short (30 minutes or less) if you are visiting just to select and checkout materials. If people are waiting for a turn to come in the library, we may ask you to wrap up your visit. Our goal is to allow everyone who wants to visit the library a chance to do so.

¤ Masks are required: We ask everyone over the age of 2 to wear a mask when entering the library. Please wear the mask over both your nose and mouth and keep it on throughout your visit. Library staff will be wearing masks as well. If you are unable to wear a mask we will try our best to accommodate you by checking out your materials or making copies for you. We are committed to helping patrons access library materials in the safest manner possible.

¤ Hand Sanitizer: Sanitizer will be available at the library for patron and staff use. Please use hand sanitizer when entering the building, and again as needed.

¤ Social distancing guidelines while in the library: Our entire collection will be available for patrons to browse, but please do so in a careful and smart manner by leaving six feet between yourself and other patrons or staff. If library staff ask you to wait until an area is clear, please cooperate.

¤ Keeping the library clean: The library will be cleaned by professionals twice a week. Regular library staff will wipe down frequently touched surfaces multiple times a day (e.g. doorknobs, photocopier, and checkout counters). However, we cannot clean everything between each patron. Please protect yourself and help us keep these public spaces clean by washing your hands thoroughly and using hand sanitizer.

¤ Use of public computers: Computers will be available for public use by appointment for 45-minute sessions. Please call the library to reserve your slot. Generally priority will be given to patrons who have not had a chance to use a computer in any given week. Workstations, including keyboard covers, will be wiped down between appointments. The children's computers will not be available for use.

¤ Use of public bathrooms: The bathrooms will be available for patron use. Our cleaning service will thoroughly clean twice a week and staff will wipe down doorknobs and faucets daily, but we cannot clean bathrooms between each patron. Please wash your hands thoroughly and take advantage of our hand sanitizer after using the bathroom.

¤ Returning materials: Our book return box is open 24 hours a day for returned materials. It is located next to our front door at the top of the ramp. Materials may also be returned at curbside pickups or inside when the building is open. Returns will be quarantined for at least 48 hours before being checked in. We will waive any fines that might accrue during the quarantine period. Normal fines and rental fees will resume September 8, 2020.

¤ Donations: We are accepting limited book donations at this time. Please call the library to arrange a drop off time. Our Fall book sale has been cancelled.

¤ Extra Services: The Discovery Room is closed. We are not offering in-building programs or room rentals at this time.

Thank you for your cooperation. We will do our best to accommodate you while keeping the public and staff safe. We look forward to seeing you!
